Morbius Post-Credits Scenes

Warning: Contains spoilers for Morbius, as well as the Spider-Man MCU Films

Morbius' post-credits scenes have been much maligned, with good reason. Unlike Marvel's excellent teases, Sony have clumsily attempted to set up the next part of their universe's story.

The first scene sees Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) be transported into a prison cell. The last time we have Toomes he was in prison in the MCU and had met the Scorpion. It appears that he has accidentally jumped universes due to the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home

This makes no sense whatsoever. At the climax of No Way Home various Spider-Man villains from the multiverse were breaking into the MCU but were sent back at the last minute, alongside villains from the Maguire and Garfield universes and Venom from this universe. It makes no sense how Toomes would have ended up randomly being transported to this universe.

We see a news report which informs us that Toomes faces some sort of trial and is quickly released. This at least makes sense as in this universe he hasn't done anything. Although it does make one wonder if the Venomverse has it's own Adrian Toomes and wouldn't it just have made more sense to use a Toomes Variant rather than the MCU one.

After a bit more of the credits we see Morbius driving somewhere remote and in flys the Vulture. Toomes has somehow managed to build his entire contraption in this new universe despite not having technology from the Battle of New York like he did before hand. It's incredible that it looks completely identical to how it looked in Homecoming

Toomes says he doesn't know how he got into this universe but says he thinks it has something to do with Spider-Man. How he has come to this conclusion is never explained but perhaps there is some logic- presumably Toomes has been keeping tabs on Spider-Man from prison and at the very least he's aware that Spider-Man has been involved with aliens and Thanos so alternate universe isn't a massive leap. It's also possible that Toomes has even seen reports of Spider-Man's battle at the Statue of Liberty and that may have been the last thing he saw in the MCU, making this less of a giant leap.

The next bit is especially odd. Toomes talks about setting up a team with Morbius being a member. It's unclear what the team is supposed to be for. If it's for getting revenge on Spider-Man how is that going to work when there doesn't appear to be a Spider-Man in this universe and they have no way to traverse back to the MCU. I could see why Toomes would want to recruit Morbius given he's widely reported to be some sort of supervillain. But actually he's not evil at all and it seems really odd that Morbius casually agrees to be part of the team without any explanation of what they are for and without having a clue who Spider-Man is.

We can assume that this team is going to be the Sinister Six, a group Sony have been trying to put together since at least The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Our first two members are Vulture and Morbius but who else? Well Venom feels like a sure bet given he's this universe's biggest star and we've already seen that the symbiote has some knowledge of Spider-Man. Kraven the Hunter seems like a good bet too given that his solo film has begun shooting (we're going to get more of these terrible post-credits scenes aren't we?). That leaves two more spots to be filled. It's unclear who will fill these- the Scorpion was teased with having links with Toomes so he's a possibility. Maybe Sony will attempt to lure back Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, Alfred Molina's Doc Ock or Jamie Foxx's Electro.

The other question is what will this Sinister Six team do? Surely the only reason to create them is to have them fight Spider-Man but this is tricky given there's no Spider-Man in the universe they are in. That means either we are going to see another Spider-Man in the Venomverse or the Six will have to find some way of getting to the MCU or dragging Spidey from the MCU which frankly seems a bit beyond them.

If Sony are going to persist with this, they really need to be smarter going about it. It seems though that the Sinister Six are inevitable...
